It was difficult to choose between 4 and 5 stars because our experience was somewhat varied. The positives first: the iced tea was refreshing and unique - a blend of mint, lemon, and lime. I would highly recommend it. The eggplant and butter chicken dishes were also very yummy, you can tell the quality of ingredients is higher than most establishments. Pricing is on the higher end but the portions match it so no qualms there. The momos were well flavoured too. Our favourite Nepalese restaurant in Calgary is Calgary Momo House and I’d say the momos here are slightly above them although pricier too. Unfortunately, the yak short ribs were way too salty, to the point of being almost inedible. We took them home hoping if we were hungrier again and added rice they would mellow out, but this was a miss. Why I’m on the fence for this review is you can tell the owners put a lot of heart and care into their restaurant. The first male server was not very welcoming or attentive, which I would expect for being a higher end restaurant and the fact we were only 1 of 2 tables. But then the owner Chef G came by our table at the end and was really wonderful, which changed the experience for us. … so thus between a 4 and 5. The yak short ribs and the server were the main detractors where I can’t give a 5 star for my experience. I can see that being luck of the draw, but that shouldn’t be the case given the price point. I would still recommend trying if you’re in the area and okay with the pricing, as some dishes were truly delightful.

We stopped at Aama Nepalese Cuisine after a big day of sightseeing in the Canadian Rockies. At 19:00, the sun was still high in the summer sky but we were tired and hungry and the restaurant was bustling in the best possible way. Everyone gets a warm welcome at Aama, and a starter of a shared plate of jhol yak momos was a delicious way to ease into the authentic Nepalese menu. I chose a traditional thuka soup as my main dish. I asked for it to be hot, and the spice level was just perfect for my palate. There was no need to add any of the tasty hot sauce that is available. My dining companions ate lamb and fish and every dish was satisfying and presented beautifully. This restaurant is highly recommended for anyone who wants to be transported to Kathmandu through good food.

Great food with some unique flavors. My first time trying Yak, but the pork belly was the best I have ever had. Will gladly come back. The servers were friendly, but at times it felt like communication was a barrier. Wife wanted some side dishes on their own, and staff were able to accomodate. I am curious about their annual Momo fest tomorrow. UPDATE: Okay, Momo Fest was amazing. First off, $1 momos were great. I ate sooooo many. The only downside was that they didn't have the full spread; only tandoori and steamed. That said, so far those are my favorite (only one flavor left to try yet... The jhol - which the owner just recommended in his reply). But they also made fresh stir fry in front of you. The yak hot dogs were okay, but didn't stand out - still, I didn't mind the price. There were line ups, but they went pretty fast, which was good. But there was so much more here - live music, face painting, other entertainers, other tents to check out, other food vendors... It was a community event. It was fantastic to see so many people out and engaged - it wasn't just for the food, but something to be a part of. I wish more restaurants did something like this, and I wish we had had more time to stick around!
