East TN Builders did a huge project for us, including a pergola, a wrap-around deck and a pool. Initially we were very pleased with their work, but over time it became clear that they lacked the required technical expertise and the willingness to correct problems they caused. Our pool is a built into the deck with a vinyl liner and a metal frame. The pool leaked from the time of installation causing severe corrosion of the metal frame. It leaked at every possible location, the skimmer, the light, and every jet. The corroded metal damaged the liner. The total cost to repair the damage exceeded $5000. ETB refused to take responsibility for the damage, instead blaming me for installing a timer on the pool motor which supposedly caused vibrations and leaking pipes. Reputable pool professionals laughed at this suggestion. The other major problem was improper installation of the deck material. Vinyl deck boards expand in the heat and contract in the cold. They need to be allowed to float and expand or contract with changes in temperature. I pointed this out to ETB at the time of installation, but they said this was not true. They did not gap the boards and compounded the problem by screwing down the boards at the ends of very long decks. This caused the boards to buckle. The pressure exerted by the expanding boards twisted the deck framing and worse still, separated the deck frame from its attachment to the house. Another major expensive repair. I understand that there are always potential pitfalls in any construction project. But I expect a builder to bring a professional level of expertise to a project and to stand behind their work when things go wrong, ETB fails on both counts and I strongly urge anyone considering hiring this company to think twice before doing so. You may be pleased in the short run but you will be stuck with responsibility for repairs when things go wrong, which they will.
