Sunshine HHA is amazing. They helped us navigate through the quagmire of the COVID pandemic and isolation in bringing my mom home from a nursing home. Daniel did so much to help prepare us before we even officially started and if it wasn't for that I think we would have been very unprepared, due to the pandemic communication with facilities was difficult. The health aides and nurse are also amazing and providing great care! Highly recommended!

We started using Sunshine in the month of November 2019. Our current agency was unable to consistently fill our weekend needs which changed in October. When I contacted Sunshine on. Friday afternoon, not only did they come out that evening to assess our weekend needs for that Sunday, they sent 2 very capable caregivers that Sunday, one who just happened to be a friend of my moms who is currently in heaven. The 2 accessors asked many questions and matched our needs very well. Since then, they have filled every request that I have made even with short notice. The owners and staff are very competent and friendly. They follow up with a calendar to ensure the accuracy of the scheduling and it’s always correct. We have dealt with about 6 agencies thus far. Undoubtedly, to date, they are by far the best.
I am updating my review to address the agency's response. The assertion that "there are two sides to every story" is a disappointing deflection that completely misrepresents the facts of our intake process and highlights a profound lack of active listening by both the owner and her administrator. To address your specific claims: 1. The "Safety," "Sustainability," and "Two Children" Excuse Your claim that providing care would be "unsafe" or that I demanded a caregiver watch two children is factually incorrect. During my initial, hour-long phone call with the owner, Deaydre, I clearly stated that having a caregiver watch both my son and his neurotypical sister was a preference and a goal—absolutely not a requirement. Furthermore, I explicitly provided Deaydre with a readily available alternative: if your caregiver could not watch both children, we would simply overlap your services with our current private nanny. Your caregiver would be responsible solely for my son (1:1 care), while our nanny cared for my daughter. I repeated this exact same flexibility to Daniel during the in-home assessment. At no point did either Deaydre or Daniel indicate this 1:1 arrangement was unrealistic or incompatible with your services. 2. The Claim Regarding "SDRC Authorizations" You stated my requested services went beyond SDRC authorization. SDRC authorizes 1:1 respite care. Because I explicitly offered the solution of your caregiver providing strictly 1:1 care for my son while our nanny watched my daughter, my request fell perfectly within SDRC authorizations. The fact that your agency is now claiming otherwise proves that the two individuals conducting my intake fundamentally failed to listen to the parameters I laid out. 3. The Contradiction of "Qualified" Staff vs. Safety You claim to maintain a "strong roster of qualified caregivers" while simultaneously claiming my request was "unsafe." We have employed multiple private nannies with zero specialized professional training who have been completely capable of safely managing both of my children simultaneously while my wife and I were away from the home. For an agency boasting highly qualified, specialized staff to claim that providing 1:1 care for my son—while parents are physically on-site during the onboarding phase—is a "safety issue" is baffling. Again, leaving the residence was communicated as a long-term goal, not an immediate requirement. 4. The "Strengthened Procedures" Claim You state you have "already strengthened internal procedures" regarding your communication gaps. It is highly difficult to believe that a 36-year-old company managed to overhaul and correct a fundamentally broken, disorganized intake system within 15 hours of receiving a negative review. When a family reaches out for respite care, they are seeking professional support, clear communication, and competence. Instead of taking genuine accountability for wasting hours of a burned-out family's time due to your staff's failure to actively listen and communicate internally, you chose to publicly twist the facts to protect your image. This response only validates my original review.
