The Horse & Jockey is a dog-friendly country pub in Manton, near Rutland Water, offering traditional British food, refreshing drinks, cosy indoor dining and outdoor seating. Located on the Rutland Water Cycle Path, it also provides camping facilities for tents, caravans and motorhomes.
Visited here with a friend, grat atmosphere here with an open fire pit. Beer selection is good, tried the ales on offer. The food was amazing and reasonable price. Plenty of seating to choose from. I look forward to coming here again. Staff were friendly and professional.
Set in the beautiful traditional village of Manton, peaceful and lovely on a summer's evening. Called in after visiting the nearby international bird fair at Oakham. As well as tables outside, there is a rooftop terrace in addition to interior seating in a dedicated area. Friendly staff, who had just been open very late whilst showing the World Cup matches. Interesting local church, one of many historic features of Manton.
We ate here on a relatively quiet Thursday. We arrived and were ignored by staff who were just not interested in greeting us at all. Eventually we did get to a table in what could be an exceptional pub. The people serving were pleasant but we felt that we were ignored most of yhe time. Our food order took quite a while to arrive but it was good hot food and we were pleased with the quality. I had to ask at the bar for the desert menu. We also saw some people arrive for the Thursday night steak night that was on the website only to be told that the website was out of date and that was no longer available. The menu is not very extensive and the website doesn't show it. I usually tip generously at these places but when I was billed I was told they had already added a service charge was I OK with that. I know not everyone tips but that wasn't mentioned on the menu and I have no idea who gets that money. I paid it but this is an establishment that needs to improve the customer service and improve the website. if they do that it will be a great place to eat. All in my humble opinion based on one single visit.
