Recently June 2026 my Acorn the 3-blade ceiling fan in my living room was turned on and was spinning whilst set on the highest speed. Without warning one of the blades detached from the motor housing and flew off. It flew across the room and hit the floor with a high impact. My grandchildren and myself had a narrow escape as mercifully the blade did not hit anyone. The ceiling fan was made by Acorn Ceiling Fans. The model’s name is Rotatoire AC-108 LED, 48 inch fan. The fan was purchased on December 2918 and blade bracket was installed on 2 October 2024. This is still available for sale at a cost of $249 in the market. The fan is only used occasionally, perhaps once or twice a week so I cannot believe that it flew off as a result of wear and tear. I therefore believe that the fan was defective and as such it is of great safety concern. I compare it to a British manufactured fan in my mother’s house which was installed 40 years ago and is still working on fine. Also I have lost confidence on any ceiling fan . I think a regular audit by the safety authority should be done for fans installed at children day car Centre , Nursing Homes and hospitals or any institution. This is to prevent a serious accident that may cause life .
